Last Friday night, my father-in-law treated us a late Father’s Day dinner and also my brother-in-law’s belated birthday. Then after the food, Jordan and his first-cousin Allyssa made friends with a girl and her brother from the next table.
Soon after the girl was playing with Jordan’s drawing gadget thingy on our table, then we heard Jordan said to the girl:
Do you know Michael Jackson died today?
That made all of us giggled, my father-in-law quipped: “wah, current news juga dia punya small talk“.
Well that morning (Malaysian time) Jacko died and Jordan, who started the day never heard of him, can’t escape Jacko’s music as it was a marathon of Jackson’s songs on the way to school. He also joined me in watching all of his videos on MTV before we went to dinner. His dance moves fascinated our little boy.
On the way to dinner, Jordan who likes to dance, told us:
Now I like Michael Jackson already… but now he already died. I’m sad.
Truly, the world has lost a truly amazing entertainer. We’re lucky we were alive when Jacko kept coming out with wonderful songs and amazing performances. Hope there will be someone at least half as good as him to entertain Jordan’s generation.
RIP Michael Jackson.

Last Sunday, Jordan was forced to watch 30 Rock with me. Apparently I won the right to handle the remote for half an hour and that was on air that time. The episode was a Christmas show (yes, great timing Star World - just because we don’t have 4 seasons in a year in this part of the world doesn’t mean you can show a Christmas episode in June!)
Anyway, the story was about Liz (Tina Fey) giving out toys to children who sent their “Dear Santa” letters to the post office.
Halfway to the show, Jordan enquired:

Last weekend Jordan and I went to KDCA with thousands of others, including my brother, my sister-in-law and my nephews. It was the usual “walk” just like the last 2 years, visiting the “district houses”, seeing all the traditional dances and all that yadda.
My wife and little Jewel decided to stay at home so they were spared from the hot sun.
Anyway, Jordan noticed a lot of kids were holding these cartoon characters balloon and one that caught his eyes was SpongeBob Squarepants. They looked so cute.
When we came across the people who were selling the balloons, I was surprised it costed RM7 per piece. And I saw a few balloons went up to the sky just like that, presumably the children didn’t hold them properly.
But I was even more surprised to his reaction when I told him about the price of the balloon. These were his reply:
What? 7 ringgit? I don’t want lah!
Then he turned around and started to walk away. Then he turned again and said:
I will only buy if it’s 1 ringgit!
Then continued his angry walk.
The little episode left all of us laughing. Looks like Jordan has been properly raised in a “middle income family” and are very prudent.
Hopefully his attitude stays even when he’s already in his teens. God knows what gadgets and toys will be available in the shops 10 years from now!

Not really sure what angle Jordan is aiming for with this pose. Probably it’s the “hope you’re not scared of me” pose.
