Robbery at Likas
Posted by Jeffrey on February 6, 2007
Okay so this is the story that everyone has been asking me about since it happened last Wednesday. There are many points that I can talk about but some I don’t think I should (unless I want the police to stalk on me).
Anyway, I will tell it as it happened (as they say, in chronological order).
My wife and me and a colleague (who hitch a ride with us to work) went for a quick jog last Wednesday. We’ve been making irregular schedule for jogging after work but we took a break since December and last Wednesday was our first since. I parked my car at the entrance to the back of the swimming pool. It’s near the large round-about.
I usually park there as I need to fetch my son at the nursery in Taman Likas Jaya, so that place is nearer (like other nursery, I will be charged RM5 if I fetch my son after 6pm, so need to be quick).
The car park there is nearer to the jogging track and many joggers park there as well. We arrived at the place at around 5.20pm.
So we completed 2 rounds by walking in 15 minutes and then straight back to the car. I saw a small crowd gathered around my car. I didn’t suspected anything bad but I was curious what they were doing there.
Nearing my car, I was shocked to see that the small triangular window was smashed, only half of it was left hanging and the other, larger window was wound down. The alarm didn’t went off. 2 handbags kept under the car seat, belonging to my wife and colleague were missing. Inside those bags were ICs, Credit Cards, driving licence, bank ATM cards, house keys, staff access cards and of course, cash totalling RM100.
My wallet and handphone were with me all the time we went jogging, so I was spared.
The others there advised me to quickly cancelled all credit cards and ATM. I tried to remain calm but still I was quite blurry too. I managed to get the police number from a friend. My in-laws were also called to fetch my son (I still hope the nursery won’t charge me RM5
)
While we were there, many of the joggers told us that we were the 2nd victim in that week. The first one was 2 days earlier on Monday where a Kancil was broken into. They even showed me the glass splinters on the ground and it was only a few steps away from our car.
Another guy told me that was like the 4th case this month and one of the car was parked in the car park facing the main road.
I was also informed that there were eye-witnesses to Monday’s incident and they managed to catch the robber’s motorcycle plate number. They were also dressed up as joggers as well. These information were already given to the police then.
Anyway, talking about the police, they took around 30 minutes to reach us (where I spent my time cancelling my wife’s credit card). They look around, ask around and instructed us to make a police report at the Karamunsing police station.
