SHC Children’s Christmas Party 2007

shc children's christmas partyLast Saturday, we brought Jordan to attend Sacred Heart Church’s Children Christmas party. Actually we weren’t planning to attend it as I was supposed to have a BBQ session at home with my buddies from SabahRhinos.com but that was cancelled.

So we missed the registration deadline which was last Monday. Luckily our friend Edward told us that the organisers do accept walk-in registration, and after confirming with the chairperson on Friday night, we decided to go.

The event was from 12pm - 4pm and exactly at 12pm, Jocelyn and I were still stuffing our tummy at City Mall while Jordan was at my in-laws. Parents were suppose to buy the presents and Santa Claus just give the presents away (ceh - parents buy/pay but Santa get all the credits!). So after getting a toy from Giant, we rushed to bring Jordan to the church hall.

Luckily there weren’t many walk-in parents/kids, I overheard they were only accepting 40 unregistered kids. While on the way, my friend told me the queue was quite long. Sometimes being late has its privileges - cuz when we arrived, the queue was already short, there were only 3 parents/kids of front of us. Anyway, Jordan’s name made it to the list though, however I’m not sure if they have the heart to turn away any kids from attending the party.

So the event started around 12.40pm and the MC was none other than Atama, the kadazan hip hop artist with his new look - no oversized glasses, short hair and decent dressing. Much better since last time he look like a clown.

Jordan likes to go in front of the stage and talk to Atama during the break - ish biasa la si Jordan ni - everyone also “friend”.

Sr Carmen Cordoba
Sister Carmen Cordoba - who is among the singers featured in the Christmas CD belting out a song - she has a sweet voice. When we were back in the choir a few years back, she never failed to put on a smile on her face whenever we meet. Cute bah sister ni!

Jordan with Edward’s kid - Gabriel. They’ll attend the same kindy next year. Look at Jordan - still excited telling the world that he’s 4 years old. Eh the girl checking out the boys ka that? heehee.

The first game for Jodan’s age group (4-6 years old) was pin the reindeer’s nose. Wah Jordan managed to get it right and won a small bag of sweets for his effort. I recorded his feat below (though after seeing it, there was a hand that guided Jordan to pin the nose hehehe).

Jordan posing with his prize. Actually it was full of sweets and since we don’t want him to eat them all, I consumed half of it at home (for his own good bah) and Jordan wasn’t really happy haha. He nagged me in the evening, saying “ish daddy! why you eat my sweet? mine thatttt”.

Luckily I didn’t gobbled up the lollipop and I used it to stuff his mouth to stop the nagging.

While the other age group were playing their games, the other kids had nothing else to do. However this is one of the things that we did, go on to the stage and took some pictures.

1st generation of choir kids - Joshua, Jordan and Gabriel - all of their parents were in the Sacred Heart English choir a few years back. Hopefully they can continue our contribution to the church when they are all grown up.

Then it was another game for the 4-6 years old - which is pass the balloon. Jordan’s group didn’t win but it was fun to see all the chaos and screams of the excited children haha.

When we came, it was a hot and lazy afternoon, and jumping into bed was like the better option, but hearing all the children’s laughter and happiness translated into screams of fun, the feeling was contagious. Though the parents were not screaming as well, there’s no better replacement than seeing your kids having the time of their lives.

And when the time for Santa to come, the hall went into a frenzy as all the children were in unison calling for Santa. I told my wife this is what it will be like when children organise their own street demonstration.

Atama did a great job in raising the tempo in those children - just look at how Jordan left his seat to jump for Santa!

So after all the 4 Santas made their entrance and the anticipation had quieted down, they went into each of the age group and started distributing the gifts under the tree.

Jordan with Gabriel and his daddy, Edward. Aisey don’t worry Jordan - next year we will give you a BIGGER present than Gabriel’s kekekeke.

Last year the organisers hired clowns but Jordan were terrified of them. I can’t blame him, I could see their dark necks too. In all, it was much better than last year though still have lots of improvements. I won’t complain much since it is an arduous task to have an event involving hundreds of children from all age group.

I’m looking forward to next year’s event, I’m sure Jordan too.
