We’re living in an ugly world

Date April 18, 2008

While driving home in the evening yesterday, Jordan saw the front page news of the bastard criminals that kidnapped a UMS student 2 days earlier. So we told him the story of why the man was in handcuffed, of course we toned it down so that it is rated “G” for general audiences.

His response was somewhat, sad in a way and funny also in a way. … anyway, here’s how it went after we told him the story.

Mommy: So, that is why you must always stick to mommy and daddy. Don’t talk to strangers because there are bad people in this world.

Jordan: Ohh.. because we live in an ugly world?

Daddy: Huh? Ugly world? Wah.. who taught you that word?

Jordan: My teacher lah.

Mommy: Your teacher told you it’s an ugly world? What were you learning that time?

Jordan: We learn the letter W. It’s for world. My teacher also said ugly world.

We just laughed a little. We can only assumed that the teacher was depressed, maybe after reading what happened to the victim.

The news today reported that the idiots kidnapped the girl apparently influenced after watching a Hong Kong movie.

“This happened after they watched Hong Kong movies where they saw the characters go drinking and then committing crimes,” Ab Razak told reporters after the state Security Council meeting here yesterday.

That’s a pathetic excuse. How many of us after watching a crime committed in a movie decided to follow it? They should be given extra 5 lashes just for being a moron.

In the Daily Express today, the police said they will “discuss” the possibility of setting up a permanent police station in Kingfisher in view of the rising crime occurences in the area. Aisey boss? Mau discuss lagi ka?

children pick up words and habits pretty fast and just as the teacher used the word ugly, jordan will very soon pick up words like idiot, bastard, moron etc. so parents, just as much we are disgusted by actions of some irresponsible people, we must also at the same time be cautious with our words and actions
