28.08.2008 - Jewel Trinity is here!

Anyway, the doctor asked that my wife to be placed in the delivery room earlier to continuously monitor the baby’s heart since she’d poo-poo inside. So she was wheeled in at 9am. In the delivery room, we didn’t watch the movie but instead I played our favourite music which is by Celtic Women.
When the dilation got to 7cm at around 10am, the pain was really kicking in. I just helped massage her lower back whenever the contraction starts and stoppedĀ myself from asking stupid question like “is it painful?” or worse “I know its painful, but try to get used to it”.
I also managed to steal some time sleeping in between contractions. I could judge the delivery time was getting nearer as my sleeping time also decreased.

Happy mommy with the baby Jewel
When I saw my wife grimacing with pain, I was questioning the nature of things, why is it that mothers have to suffer so much physical pain when delivering their children. Feeling just so hopeless and guilty (well I caused this pregnancy anyway
), it is just so unfortunate that husbands cannot take half of the pain so that we can go through the suffering together with our wives.
After the dilation has reached 10cm and the baby’s head was fully engaged, the delivery time has arrived and the doctor came. It took my wife almost 5 or 6 pushes to finally get her out. By each push I mean, each contraction in between roughly 60 seconds. The doctor had the vacuum ready but she’s confident that my wife can push the baby out.
After the 5th push, the doctor said she will use the vacuum to help her out but in the end, she didn’t. My wife was fooled though, only after the delivery did she know that the doctor didn’t use the vacuum and that she pushed the baby out all by herself.
It was a great relief when the baby came out. I found myself in tears and my wife, who endured all the pain didn’t have any tears in her eyes though. Strong lady! But I think I saw some tinkle in her eyes when Jewel was placed on her chest.
