Santa is not from China

Last Sunday, Jordan was forced to watch 30 Rock with me. Apparently I won the right to handle the remote for half an hour and that was on air that time. The episode was a Christmas show (yes, great timing Star World - just because we don’t have 4 seasons in a year in this part of the world doesn’t mean you can show a Christmas episode in June!)

Anyway, the story was about Liz (Tina Fey) giving out toys to children who sent their “Dear Santa” letters to the post office.

Halfway to the show, Jordan enquired:

Jordan: Daddy, why the people in the show still think Santa Claus give toys to children?

me: aik? Why? You don’t believe Santa gives you present meh?

Jordan: No.

me: but last Christmas you got the Ben10 toys from Santa right?

Jordan: Emmm I know you and mommy buy that from the store.

me: Says who?

Jordan: Because I checked my Ben10 toys, at the back got “Made in China“. So I know lah you buy from the toy shop.

me: So Santa cannot give toys made in China meh?

Jordan: Because Santa makes his own toys in the toy factory with all the elves. Santa is not from China!

At this point, I was giggling nervously already. Should I raise my hands up and just confess that I am part of the worldwide scam on children? I tried to come up with an explanation.

me: Sometimes Santa can’t make enough toys for all the children in the world, so they buy from the shops also.

Jordan: oh (unconvincingly)

Then he didn’t ask anymore and I just leave it at that. Don’t want to stir anymore questions haha.

Not so sure if his belief has been restored. Only time will tell - or Jordan himself.
